Botox®

Botox

What does Botox® treat?

Botox® treatments are used to reduce lines and wrinkles that form in the upper face.

As we age, changes occur at different rates to our upper, mid and lower face.  In the upper face ‘dynamic’ lines appear, in the forehead and around the eyes, when we smile or frown.  These lines appear because various muscles contract to form different facial expressions.  Over time these expression lines begin to linger a little longer, or become a little deeper, even when your face is at rest (these are called static lines).  Botox® relaxes wrinkle causing muscles to help refresh your facial appearance.

What is Botox®?

Botox® is a natural, purified protein that relaxes wrinkle-causing muscles, creating a rejuvenated appearance.  As it is a prescription only medicine, Botox® treatments are only available from qualified medical professionals.

How does Botox® work?

Botox® works by relaxing facial muscles that cause dynamic lines when you smile and frown.  Botox® gradually smooths out current lines and reduces new lines forming.

Botox® is used for treatment of crows feet, forehead lines and glabellar frown lines.

What do Botox treatments involve?

Botox® treatments are quick and relatively simple, non-surgical procedures.  During treatments, a small amount of Botox® is injected into specific facial muscles using a very fine needle.

Botox® treatments generally take around 10 minutes.  Typically, any pain is minimal and brief.  No anaesthetic is required, and you can resume normal activities immediately.  We will provide you with a post-care pamphlet to take home with you after your treatment.

When will I see results and how long will Botox® last?

Generally, people start to see results within two days of their treatment, and it takes about seven days for all results to be visible.   The effects of Botox® treatments usually last up to four months and gradually decrease over time.  If you have regular Botox® treatments, the effect may last longer.

How do I maintain my Botox results?

Regular Botox® treatments may help improve the longevity of the treatment’s effects.  In addition, regular treatment may help reduce static wrinkles (these are wrinkles that are present even when your face is at rest).

We can discuss a treatment plan for regular Botox® treatments specific to you.
